CCCC freshman named Region 6 athlete of meet

MANHATTAN — Cloud County Community College freshman Chioma Agwunobi won the long jump, was a member of the winning 4x400 relay team and finished second in the triple jump and 200-meter dash on her way to being named the co-recipient of the Female Athlete of the Meet Award at the Region 6 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Agwunobi took first in the long jump with a best of 17-6.
Cloud County’s 4x400 relay team of Agwunobi, Sean’e Mapson, Kendra Zabokrtsky and Kiandra Jones ran 4:01.21.
Agwunobi went 37-3 1/4 to finish second in the triple jump, and placed second in the 200 with a time of 25.08.
Cloud County finished fifth in the meet with 81 points.
Johnson County Community College won the women’s team title with 156.5 points. Coffeyville and Barton County tied for second place with 95 points and Cowley County was fourth with 84.5.
The Cloud County women finished second in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division with 144.5 points.
Butler County captured first place with 160.5 points and Hutchinson was third with 133.5.
The Cloud County men finished eighth in Region 6 with 32 points.
Johnson County scored 119 points to take first. Barton County was second with 116 and Coffeyville was third with 103.
The Thunderbirds were fifth in the Jayhawk West with 94 points.
Barton County won the West with 188 points. Hutchinson was second with 177 and Butler County was third with 131.
The Cloud County women also got first-place finishes from Mapson and Vanessa Resh.
Mapson ran 1:35.88 to win the 600-meter dash.
Resh was first in the 800 with a time of 2:27.25.
Marie Mvoto threw 43-3 to finish second in the shot put for the T-Birds.
Cloud County’s 4x800 relay team of Mapson, Resh, Zabokrtsky and Taryn Johnson finished third in 10:03.90.
Kristen Harris placed fifth in the pole vault (10-6) and eighth in the triple jump (32-2) and the 600m (1:47.55).
Jones finished seventh in the 400 (1:02.57).
Zabokrtsky was eighth in the 400 (1:02.64).
The Cloud County men had Josh Charles place second in the 400 dash in 49.50.
Denray Ottey ran 1:23.03 to finish fourth in the 600 for the T-Birds.
Cloud County’s 4x400 relay team was fourth in 3:22.72.
Wayne Northover went 22-8 1/2 to finish fifth in the long jump.
Cloud County’s 4x800 relay placed sixth in 8:33.44.
Chris Sipe cleared 13-9 1/4 to take seventh in the pole vault.
Phillip Alcorn was seventh in the mile run in 4:47.91.
The T-Birds’ distance medley relay team was eighth in 12:18.72.
Competing in the Nebraska Tune-up meet at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on Friday, the Cloud County 4x400 relay team of Northover, Charles, Ottey and Colton Stone ran 3:17.57 to finish third and qualify for the NJCAA Indoor Championships.
Charles placed sixth in the 200 dash in 22.07 and qualified for nationals.
The national meet is scheduled for March 2-3 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill.
