T-Birds sweep Barton County
GREAT BEND — Giving up just three runs in two games, the Cloud County Community College softball team swept a doubleheader from Barton County on Tuesday.
Marley Boldra tossed a two-hit shutout as the Thunderbirds shut out the Cougars 10-0 in the first game.
Cloud County won the second game 7-3 to improve to 3-2 on the season
Marley allowed just two baserunners, and retired Barton County in order in four of five innings.
Cloud County scored two runs on four hits in the top of the first inning.
Haley Norris and Amanda Bekemeyer drove in runs in the second inning to put the T-Birds up 4-0.
Cloud County tacked on four runs on five hits in the third inning and led 8-0.
Taylor Nikkel singled home a pair of runs in the fourth to make it 10-0.
The T-Birds banged out 15 hits in the game.
Nikkel had three hits in four at bats, drove in three runs and scored two
Norris had two hits and drove in two runs.
Traci Bohlmeyer was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Bekemeyer, Chatley Lovvorn and Devin McCorry had two hits each and Catherine Wallace scored two runs.
In the second game, Nikkel walked and scored on a passed ball in the first inning.
Cloud County made it 3-0 with two runs in the top of the third inning.
Norris knocked in both runs with a single.
Barton County cut the deficit to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
A two-run home run by Bekemeyer in the top of the fifth inning put Cloud County up 5-2.
Barton County scored a run in the sixth.
Bekemeyer homered with one aboard in the top of the seventh to make it 7-2.
Brooke Plummer pitched all seven innings to get the win. She gave up three runs on 15 hits, struck out two and walked two.
Cloud County scored seven runs on seven hits.
Bekemeyer was 2-for-3 with four runs batted in. She scored two runs.
